How do you create a page-turning plot and keep the tension simmering if you don’t know what you’re writing yet?
After years of false starts and failed attempts to organise her thoughts, Alice Slater discovered the best way to write was to stop trying to emulate others and embrace the way her own brain works. She’s evangelical about leaning into our natural impulses to get the job done and has found herself naturally leaning into different modes of writing for each project.
In this workshop, we’ll consider alternative approaches to planning, plotting and writing thrillers, from organised chaos to following your nose.
We’ll look at:
· To plot, or not to plot? the eternal question
· Fixing up a chaotic first draft
· Creating tension with pace, tone and voice
· Retrospective breadcrumbing of tension
