Join your fellow grrrls online for The Craft Coven: Write Like A Grrrl’s monthly reading and writing workshop To begin 2026, we're very excited to be exploring all four English translations of the brilliant On the Calculation of Volume I, II, III and IV by Solve Balle.

Beginning with On the Calculation of Volume I and ending with what will be the newly published On the Calculation of Volume IV, you can book for all four workshops — and see the evolution of Balle's writing and the themes she returns to again and again — or come along to the one you want to talk about the most and dive deep into her grasp of character, dialogue and setting.

Hosted by Write Like A Grrrl tutor Sara Sherwood, The Coven is a place for writers and readers to gather in a circle with other wonderful and welcoming grrrls, to harness the magic of reading like a writer to enrich your own writing.

To take part just read the text of the month, and spend time underlining sentences with your glitter pens, daydream about character, motivation and super-objectives and work out how the author of the month creates the perfect setting for the story. You then bring to the workshop all your brilliant observations to discuss with the group or just listen in. No pressure!

The workshop will be split into two parts: the first half will be a discussion about the text, where you’ll share what you’ve picked up from the text. Then we’ll have a break for refuelling with snacks and drinks before doing writing exercises inspired by the craft of the novel.

When you sign up to the class, you’ll receive a welcome from Sara, along with hints and tips of what to look for when you’re reading. If you’re feeling shy about sharing your thoughts, that’s fine too - everyone is welcome take part however they wish. No pressure ever!

Bring your cosiest blankets, a hot brew and your revolutionary spirit, and get ready to look deeply at the novel of the month that will inspire your writing in 2025.
